DESCRIPTION:Taking place on Friday\, April 25\, this seminar offers a chance to connect with the Od Arts Festival team\, fellow creatives\, and future collaborators\, along with five artists participating in Od Arts Festival 2025 this May. This year’s festival is dedicated to nurturing and engaging with contemporary artistic practices and community activities that delve into themes of growth\, production\, and consumption. \nConnecting with the festival’s rural setting\, the participating artists’ reflect on ecological grief and the impacts of Western consumerist and colonial culture. They invite visitors and residents to join in a collective pause\, fostering reflection\, renewal\, and inspiring transformative ways of thinking together. \nAlongside the presentations and workshops by Od Arts Festival 2025 Artists we are delighted that we will be joined by artist Cherry Truluck who will be providing a specially curated lunch for all participants. \nInvited artists and creative practitioners include: Emii Alra\, Michelle Atherton\, Geoff Diego Litherland\, Vicky Putler\, Laura Eldret\, Cherry Truluck.  \n

DESCRIPTION:Join a unique workshop with the singer and artist Phil Owen. \nAbout a century ago\, a group of folklorists travelled through the English countryside\, collecting old folk songs from some of the last remaining people who remembered them. Many hundreds of songs were collected in Somerset and Dorset\, including in the Cokers. \nIn a workshop on Saturday 11 April\, we will learn a selection of songs from in and around East and West Coker\, and find out about the people who sang them. We will also discuss what it might mean to sing the songs today\, as a way of engaging in local community heritage. \nPhil Owen is a singer and writer from North Somerset. His work is informed by a strong interest in the relationships between voice\, heritage and place. With Megan Wakefield\, he ran the experimental literary salon Tertulia. \nContinuing our relationship with Phil Owen as an artist\, this workshop follows a recent performance at Coker Court\, and Phil’s outdoor performances of O is this called Lord Bateman’s castle\, and is his Lordship here within?\, throughout the Cokers for Od Arts Festival 2018. \nAll singers welcome.
